A man from Punjab, who once considered himself an underperformer throughout his life, recently shared his remarkable story of transformation on the subreddit Indian Flex. His journey from financial struggle to landing a high-paying job became an inspiring reminder that persistence can reshape even the toughest circumstances.
Humble Beginnings in a Modest Household
He grew up in a small town and studied at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Pojewal, in Nawanshahr from classes eight to ten. Presently, he resides in Rupnagar, Punjab. His father had migrated from Bihar to Punjab during the 1970s, where he managed to buy a small 50-gaj plot and built a home for the family while working at a manufacturing firm called DCM.
The young man always knew that financial comfort was not something he was born into. By the time he reached class twelve, his father had retired, earning a mere ₹3,000 as a monthly pension. Out of empathy and understanding of their financial situation, he never asked his father for school fees. Despite that, his father continued to ensure both his and his twin brother’s education was not interrupted.
A Pause for Responsibility
In 2015, his brother secured admission to IET Bhaddal for a B.Tech in Computer Science. Concerned about how his father would handle the cost of educating both sons simultaneously, he decided to take a two-year break from academics. During this time, he and his brother attempted to join the Indian Navy after completing their 12th grade. Both cleared all the stages, but while his brother’s name appeared in the final merit list, his did not.
Loss and the Weight of Uncertainty
Accepting the setback, he later enrolled in B.Tech in Computer Science. Unfortunately, in 2017, during his first year, his father passed away. That loss left a void he could never fill, but his mother’s unwavering presence gave him the strength to continue.
During his academic break, he had started a small YouTube channel named Sahani Technicals, which gained popularity and even earned him some income. His brother supported him financially throughout his college years and, to this day, continues to help him whenever needed.
Academic Struggles and Unexpected Opportunities
Without proper guidance in college, he drifted through his studies and treated classes as a pastime. By the sixth semester, he had accumulated twelve backlogs. Fortunately, when the COVID-19 pandemic struck, exams were conducted from home, allowing him to clear all his papers and finally graduate.
Despite completing his degree, he was still clueless about where to begin his professional journey. Around this time, his brother’s friend, Bhavnish Aggarwal, who had two years of freelancing experience, stepped in to guide him. At that stage, he barely knew the basics of programming. Bhavnish mentored him for six months, teaching him Python and helping him gain enough confidence to start his career.
The First Break and the Second Wind
After months of practice, he applied for jobs and eventually got hired by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), earning a monthly salary of ₹21,000. Initially, remote work made the arrangement manageable, but when he moved to Noida, he realized that the income barely covered his living expenses.
Determined to move ahead, he reinvested his savings into an advanced Python course and spent the next six months studying diligently. His improved technical skills caught Bhavnish’s attention once again, and with his help, he landed a job at a startup with an impressive package of ₹9 lakh per annum.
The Turning Point
A few months later, as his financial responsibilities toward his family and girlfriend grew, he began aiming higher. From March onward, he dedicated himself to interview preparation while continuing his job. Over the next five months, he attended twenty-one interviews, facing rejection after rejection, until finally, two offers came his way—one for Rs 15 lakh per annum and another for ₹18.5 lakh. Choosing the latter, he finally reached the milestone he had once thought impossible.
The Message Behind the Journey
Today, with his dream salary in hand, his focus has shifted toward supporting his family and helping his brother in return. Reflecting on his past, he emphasizes that he was never a top student, never had academic guidance, and often doubted himself. Yet, he managed to climb his way up through sheer effort and consistency.
His story stands as proof that one doesn’t need to be extraordinary to achieve success — only persistent enough to keep moving forward despite obstacles. For anyone struggling to find direction, his message is simple: keep pushing, never give up, and eventually, the effort will turn into the reward you’ve always dreamed of.
