Rohini Vrat holds immense importance in Jainism, dedicated especially to Lord Vasupujya Swami and the Moon, whose worship is significant as it enters the Rohini Nakshatra on this day, making it a notable occasion for "Chandra Puja." According to the Drik Panchang, Rohini Vrat will be observed on November 7th during the month of Aghan.
Purpose of Rohini VratPrimarily observed by women, Rohini Vrat is a day when they pray for the longevity and well-being of their families and children. The fast, typically waterless or fruit-restricted, is believed to invoke blessings for prosperity and family welfare. Although this fast occurs monthly, it acquires special significance on notable dates such as when the Moon is in the Rohini Nakshatra.
Duration for Special BenefitsJain doctrine prescribes observing Rohini Vrat for three, five, or seven consecutive years to attain profound spiritual benefits. It is believed that this sustained fasting practice helps liberate individuals from the bondage of karma, ultimately leading to salvation. The fast's efficacy completes only upon performing the Parana ritual, after which special benefits begin to manifest.
Rohini Vrat Puja ProcedureDevotees begin by waking during Brahma Muhurta and bathing with water mixed with Ganga water. After sipping water, they vow to fast and offer water to the Sun God. The worship area is cleaned, and Lord Vasupujya's idol is installed on the altar, followed by offerings of fruits, flowers, incense, durva grass, and naivedya. Puja is performed before sunset, and fruits are consumed to break the fast the next day after completing the ritual. Almsgiving to the poor is also encouraged on this auspicious day.
