The sacred festival of Tulsi Vivah — symbolizing the divine marriage of Lord Vishnu’s incarnation, Shaligram, and Mata Tulsi — will be celebrated on November 2, 2025, which falls on the Dwadashi Tithi of Kartik Shukla Paksha. This festival marks the end of Chaturmas and the beginning of auspicious events such as weddings and religious ceremonies. Performing Tulsi Vivah is believed to bring prosperity, happiness, and the same spiritual merit as performing Kanyadaan (the giving away of a daughter in marriage).
However, many devotees, in their eagerness to perform the rituals, often forget key items — making the puja incomplete. Here’s a list of essential ingredients and their significance to ensure your Tulsi Vivah is performed properly.
1. Suhaag Items for Mata Tulsi
Mata Tulsi is adorned as a bride during the ceremony. Offering suhaag items such as chunri, bangles, vermilion, mehndi, and bindi is considered highly auspicious.
Significance: Mata Tulsi is regarded as an incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi. Offering suhaag items symbolizes prosperity, marital bliss, and good fortune in the household.
2. Seasonal Fruits and Vegetables
Seasonal produce such as amla, radish, and water chestnut are offered during Tulsi Vivah. A mandap made of sugarcane and banana leaves is also prepared.
Significance: This offering marks the end of Chaturmas and the start of auspicious activities, symbolizing renewal, harvest, and abundance.
3. New Clothes and Garlands for Shaligram and Tulsi
Dress both Shaligram (the groom) and Tulsi (the bride) in new clothes and adorn them with flower garlands.
Significance: Just like a traditional wedding, new clothes and garlands signify purity, celebration, and the sanctity of the marriage ceremony.
4. Tulsi Leaves in the Offering (Naivedya)
Tulsi leaves or Panchamrit must be part of the offering to Lord Vishnu.
Significance: No offering to Lord Vishnu is complete without Tulsi leaves. They represent devotion and divine grace, completing the naivedya.
5. Lighting of Lamps (11 or 21 Diyas)
The evening aarti and puja are incomplete without lighting lamps filled with pure ghee.
Significance: The light symbolizes the victory of positivity over darkness and invites Goddess Lakshmi’s blessings into the home.
