Spooky season is upon us, and true crime lovers are turning to Netflix for some chilling documentaries to watch.
Netflix's latest offering, Aileen: Queen of the Serial Killers, has dropped just in time for Halloween.
The logline reads: "Aileen Wuornos remains a rarity: a female serial killer. From childhood abuse to death-row revelations, this documentary revisits her life and crimes."
While documentary fans have been asking plenty of questions about the notorious serial killer with a heartbreaking past, plenty of viewers have also been left wondering about documentary creator Emily Turner.
Emily Turner is the director of Netflix's new documentary, Aileen: Queen of the Serial Killers.
However, UK fans are likely to already recognise her work, as she has also directed and produced multiple episodes of 24 Hours in Police Custody for Channel 4.
Her breakthrough film, Accused: The Hampstead Paedophile Hoax, also aired on the channel and tells the story of "four mothers who found themselves at the heart of a shocking series of allegations sweeping the internet".
According to her agent, Stern and Wild, Turner is "a director who is passionate about finding bold, original and distinctive ways of telling stories with heart and compassion for those they belong to".
She also "has a flare for working sensitively, and bravely, with vulnerable contributors, and children.
The description continues: "Her specialist expertise of working within social services, the NHS and Police Forces means she relishes working in a consulting capacity on series and singles in these areas."
Therefore, it comes as no surprise that she has also produced BAFTA-nominated films and series within the hardest to reach institutions, including BBC's Protecting Our Foster Kids and Channel 4's Kids On The Edge and Lemn Sissay's Superkids: Breaking Away From Care.
Additionally, Turner also developed and consulted on Paddy Wivell's Channel 4 series, Kids, and won an RTS for her work on The Interrogation of Tony Martin.
Outside of her work on film and TV, Turner acts as a Mentor in association with the Grierson Trust as part of their Alumni mentorship scheme.
Aileen: Queen of the Serial Killers is available to stream on Netflix now.
