The Philadelphia 76ers ' injury report might be long before their significant match against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday. Joel Embiid won’t be on the court for the Sixers during the second game of a back-to-back. The All-Star center did not participate in the game against the Nets on Sunday; however, his return is now full-throttle.
After sitting out one game for knee injury management, he played on Tuesday against the Chicago Bulls. Nonetheless, the 76ers' Wednesday game versus Cleveland is a rapid turnaround, so it is possible that Embiid will require a maintenance day soon. The basketball star has put up impressive numbers of 17.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.0 blocks per game in four games this season; however, his maximum playing time has been 25 minutes.
Joel Embiid returns to boost 76ers’ lineup as Philadelphia gears up for clash with Chicago Bulls
Joel Embiid, who missed Sunday's game against the Brooklyn Nets due to an injury, will return to the starting lineup for the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday night against the Chicago Bulls.
The Philadelphia big man will play tonight after missing his team's last game because of load management. The Sixers should benefit greatly from this. In an interview with ESPN in October, Embiid said that he would not play back-to-backs for the remainder of his career. Embiid stated:
"If I had to guess.. I would probably never play back-to-backs the rest of my career."
Since January 2024, Embiid has had a constant issue with his left knee which forced him to undergo several surgeries. In the 2024-2025 season, he played in a total of 19 games and in the previous season he played in 39 games. So far this season, Embiid has been on the court for four out of seven games.
Embiid has been on a minutes restriction and has missed two of the team's first six games, but this is great news for the Sixers who are currently 5-1 and have had a very good start to the season. Embiid has an overall shooting percentage of 46.0 and a three-point shooting percentage of 38.9 while averaging 17.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game.
After having difficulties in the opening game of the season for the 76ers, Embiid has been able to score more than 20 points in each of his last three games. He is still restricted to 25 minutes of play per game, but in his last three games, he has scored 20, 25, and 20 points respectively.
He now faces a Chicago club that this season has the 26th-highest opponent points in the paint per game in the NBA. The 76ers will probably engage Embiid early in this game, and he should be able to defeat Nikola Vucevic.
In addition to Joel Embiid's comeback, Philadelphia has more positive injury news. In addition to Embiid's return to the starting lineup, Philadelphia is anticipated to see Jared McCain (thumb, probable) play for the first time in the 2025–2026 campaign. The Sixers are now prepared to take on the Cavaliers.
