NEW DELHI: Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini on Wednesday hit back at Lok Sabha leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi over his latest salvo at EC and the ruling BJP -- "H-files" -- in which he alleged massive voter fraud during the Haryana assembly elections.
Speaking to reporters, CM Saini dismissed Rahul’s charges, saying, "Rahul Gandhi is doing the work of misleading the nation... The way Congress has become agenda-less, they are misleading the nation by spreading lies."
Union minister Kiren Rijiju ridiculed Rahul's allegations with a sharp quip: "Why doesn't his atom bomb ever explode? Rahul Gandhi says that the atom bomb is going to explode, but why doesn't his atom bomb ever explode? He doesn't take any subject seriously and even says that a hydrogen bomb will explode."
Earlier in the day, Rahul Gandhi had launched a fresh attack on the BJP and the Election Commission, alleging a large-scale "vote theft" in Haryana. Presenting what he called the "H-Files," Rahul claimed a "theft of 25 lakh votes" -- including "5.21 lakh duplicate voters, 93,174 invalid voters, and 19.26 lakh bulk voters.” He alleged that “one in eight voters" on Haryana’s rolls were fake.
"We have the word 'H-Files' and this is about how an entire state has been stolen. We suspected that this is not happening in individual constituencies, but at the state level and at the national level," Rahul said.
He added that Congress candidates had raised multiple complaints during the polls, saying, "We got a lot of complaints in Haryana, from our candidates, that something was wrong and not working. Their predictions all went upside down. We had experienced this in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra but we decided to zoom into Haryana and go into details about what had happened there."
Rahul also accused the Election Commission and the ruling BJP of "converting Congress’ landslide victory into a loss."
In one of his more startling claims, the Congress leader alleged that a woman -- who he said turned out to be a Brazilian model -- voted 22 times at 10 different booths using multiple identities.
"Who is this lady? What is her name? Where does she come from?" Rahul asked. "But she votes 22 times in Haryana, at 10 different booths, and has multiple names: Seema, Sweety, Saraswati, Rashmi, Vilma... But turns out she is actually a Brazilian model."
